16-year-old boy holds up bank......SERIOUSLY KIDS YALL WATCH TOO MUCH TV

It's bad enough that kids are shooting up schools.....but now they are robbing banks?!?! I don't know whats going on with this world but its getting out of hand.

"An hour-long stakeout at an east-end bank ended dramatically yesterday morning when police wrestled the teenage robber to the ground as he left the building with a backpack filled with a reported $150,000 in cash.

The 16-year-old robber apparently had no idea that two Emergency Task Force teams with 20 officers, a K9 unit and an armoured vehicle were outside, said Toronto police Const. Wendy Drummond.

The teen was tackled by an off-duty officer who happened to be inside the bank at the time of the robbery.

Police were called around 10:15 a.m. to the CIBC Bank, located in a strip mall on Lawrence Avenue East near Victoria Park Avenue.

The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with robbery and forcible confinement. He was scheduled to appear in Toronto court this morning."

Stephen “Static/Major” Garrett died unexpectedly

Stephen “Static/Major” Garrett died unexpectedly this past Monday in his hometown of Louisville, KY. Static was a member of the group R&B Group “Playa”. He began his musical career under the tutelage of Jodeci’s DeVante Swing, and formed kinships with fellow members of DeVante’s Swing Mob such as Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Ginuwine. Although no autopsy has been performed, reporters say he may have died from a brain aneurysm.

Static worked with the likes of artists such as Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Destiny’s Child, Brandy, and JoJo. Static’s most highly recognized work was for Aaliyah, whose single “Try Again” from the 2000 film Romeo Must Die.

Teen killed in accident - "She was a beautiful young girl who loved life,"

Reflecting on his 15-year-old daughter who was killed in a car accident Sunday night, the girl’s father could barely talk yesterday.

Eugenia Migounov, was pronounced dead on Sunday at Sunnybrook hospital a short time after emergency workers pulled her from what was left of a car that collided with a TTC shelter on Bathurst Street.

"She was a beautiful young girl who loved life," said the man, known as Dimitry.

Described by friends as a shy, "good girl," who would have turned 16 on March 21, Migounov was sitting in the back seat passenger’s side of an Acura when it mounted the sidewalk on Bathurst Street around 9:30 p.m.

The driver (17-year-old who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act), has been charged with impaired driving causing death and negligent driving causing death.

Hollywood and Baby Photos.....

Jlo, Christina, Nicole, all new mothers and all within the last month; yet it seems like the only thing more trendy that actually giving birth these days, is pimping the first pictures of the precious little one to the highest bidder. Jlo is reportedly receiving 4-6 million dollars for the first glimpse of her little ones; Nicole was reportedly given 1 million… I mean shoot, I can have a kid, just give me a twenty. Ok maybe more…

Ok but seriously, it is kind of ridiculous of how some of these celebs will jump to stop a paparazzo from taking a picture of there child but be ready and willing as long as they get a cut in the profits. It sounds a bit scandalous, and so happens so often it’s like the new black. But is there a method to this madness? I mean is there a good reason why some of these A-listers are so quick to pawn off picture to People or OK! Magazine.

Well I thought about it, and in hind sight, it makes the some sense to kill the curiosity before our curiosity kills them. When a celeb is suspected pregnant they are subjected to constant “baby watch” or “bump watch”. They get followed until finally something that appears to resemble a bloated belly arises. (Or it might just be gas) When it is confirmed the media frenzy becomes fever pitched to get photos of the pregnant celeb out and about. Then finally, depending on the celeb status or notoriety, the first paparazzi pictures of the blessed child can go for top dollar. But some of these paparazzos are really aggressive and would stop at nothing to make that money shot; even if it means running people off the road, putting the new mom and child in danger. So when it’s put like that it’s forgivable that they are selling the pictures for top dollar. When these pictures are finally published the curiosity is dulled down and no one really cares until the next starlet or Hollywood train wreck gets knocked up… oh joy… can’t wait…

Personally, I don’t like it… I say shield your child for as much as you can for as long as you can. Auctioning off pictures may start an unhealthy fascination with your child and considering how many crazy people we have in this world; it may not be for the best. Put your kids first and your pocketbook last.

6 Questions with the Academy Award-nominated actor and activist

Essence.com: So we hear you're working on a movie about Miles Davis. What will it be like?
Don Cheadle: The Miles movie I'm trying to do is not some traditional biopic. It's an interpretation of himself, more than it is attempting to be some sort of cradle-to-grave, historically accurate depiction of who he was. The first line in our movie, with him in the dark, is of him saying ‘Some of this s--t might have happened.'

Essence.com: Are you focused more now on playing the leading man?
D.C.: I've played the lead in many movies…to me it's mostly just that I want to play interesting characters in interesting movies, that I'm engaged in and that get me excited.

Essence.com: What challenges you as an actor?
D.C.: Places I haven't been before, characters I haven't explored before, subject matter , things that I think are part of the zeitgeist that aren't being talked about in the specific way that I think the movie can talk about them.

Essence.com: Are there any parts you can't get at this point in your career?
D.C: The dentist in Reign Over Me was originally written for Javier Bardem. We changed relatively little. We all know that Black dentist, you know. We've probably all been to that guy and had our teeth cleaned; that guy is a real guy who walks and talks. Obviously being a Black man in America, stories resonate with us in a different way. It's not necessarily defined by that, but it is influenced and enhanced and definitely impacted by that. Still that doesn't mean that every story that we are involved in centers around that.

Essence.com: What is the hardest thing to overcome in Hollywood?
D.C.: Once you do something in this business, people are always trying to define you and put you in a box.

Essence.com: You played some extraordinary characters over your career. Do you still feel challenged by the roles you play?
D.C.: I always like to play roles without parameters. Even in my short lifetime in this business, over 20 years, which I consider to be pretty short in this business, I see a progression. I always believed, though clearly I know I'm Black, that there were a wide range of roles I could play. I grew up in theater and we played everything.

America's Next Top Model, Cycle 10 aired last night

America's Next Top Model, Cycle 10 is the tenth cycle of America's Next Top Model and the fourth season of the series to be aired on The CW network. This cycle's catch-phrase is "Back To Basics".

The winner will win management and representation by Elite Model Management, a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, and a cover and six-page spread within Seventeen magazine.

A few major changes were made this season. The show was moved back to New York City, New York, after being housed in Los Angeles, California since Cycle 4. The number of contestants was also increased to 14, after being maintained at 13 since Cycle 5. Finally, the judging panel, unchanged since Cycle 5, will also be altered; Twiggy will be replaced by Czech supermodel Paulina Porizkova due to the former models scheduling conflicts

SNOW AND MORE SNOW.....

Now I know I’m not the only one fed up with the recent turn of events where the weather is concerned. I mean it’s almost like Mother Nature just said “screw it” and forgot that all that white stuff is going to eventually fall on us. Now seeing as how we have had more snow this year than the last I think that is something Mrs. Mother Earth need to take into consideration and give it a rest.

I mean it sucks that I don’t live on a major street so even days after a storm there are still mountains of snow everywhere. So walking up and down my street feels more like running an obstacle course; let’s just say I’m not impressed. I can’t stand hearing stories on the news about trucks going to all the secondary streets clearing all the snow banks left behind by the previous snow storms before another hits. I’m assuming they mean all the streets except mine, cause I saw some trucks on the street beside mine, then I saw one on the street in front on mine. Funny, I didn’t seem to see one actually on my street. Again, I’m not too impressed with that one either.

So, okay, I know that this sounds like mindless ranting. And in many ways you are right. This snow just brings the worst out of me. I mean, I don’t know about you, but my parents are African, which technically makes me genetically incapable of being able to cope in this weather. So basically I’m at a disadvantage.

So what to do? Brave it out… tough it up…woman up… and wait till March when snow will melt. OH GAWD… I can’t wait…

Valentine’s Day Blues - Survival Tips

Is there something in the air… or is that just frost bite? Well whatever it is, it’s hard to miss that all too familiar day on its way to a wallet near you. You know what I’m talking about…Valentine’s Day. Lovers crave it loners hate it. But I’m here to change all that. Yes me, Didi, your Valentine’s Fairy… ok well you know what I mean.

Now if you don’t have a Valentine this year don’t get “scurred”. Be your own Valentine. That’s right, nothing wrong with a little self love. This can be easily done if you follow a few Valentine’s survival guideline.

1)Surprise yourself with a little Val day card along with a nice breakfast in bed; and if you can’t cook it’s probably for the best that the breakfast is for you
2)Nothing wrong with a little candle light, flowers and a Hungry Man dinner at night… a great Salisbury Steak can always set the mood
3)And trust me if you are buying yourself a nice box of chocolate, don’t feel ashamed, no one knows it’s for you… (that’s unless you start to eat it in the store)

Really there are worst things in life that being alone on Valentine’s Day. But for some it may seem like the be all and end all. Just know that there is the rest of the year to find that special someone and have your own special Valentine’s Day. Until then look on the bright side, it will be better on you wallet and chocolate usually goes straight to your thighs anyway.

At the end of the day you’ll always have yourself… and that’s the best Valentine’s present of all.

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Today February 7, 2008 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day!

The mission of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) is to build the capacity and increase awareness, participation and support for HIV prevention, care and treatment among African Americans. February 7, 2008 marks the eighth year of this annual event.

The primary goal of NBHAAD is to motivate African Americans to get tested and know their HIV status; get educated about the transmission modes of HIV/AIDS; get involved in their local community; and get treated if they are currently living with HIV or are newly diagnosed.
